Non-prescription drugs heal Romania's pharma market

Romanians bought drugs worth EUR 755 million in distribution price in the last quarter of 2014, up 11.8% year-on-year.

The increase in non-prescription drugs and in products for chronical diseases triggered this growth, according to the Pharma & Hospital Report presented by market analysis company Cegedim, reports local Economica.net.

The prescription drugs amounted to EUR 531 million, up 9.6% over the same period in 2013, whereas the non-prescription drugs reached EUR 133 million, up 19.5% year-on-year.

The hospital segment amounted to EUR 90 million, up 13.8% over 2013.

French pharma group Sanofi ranked first on the Romanian market, with sales worth EUR 192 million, followed by Swiss group Hoffmann La Roche, with EUR 181 million sales.
