One in 100 Romanians have mental health issues

Some 212,000 Romanians, or over 1% of the country's population, have mental health problems, according to data from end-September 2015, cited by representatives of the Estuar Foundation. The number is higher than the one reported in the same period the previous year.

Moreover, the number of Bucharest residents suffering from depression has been growing at a steady pace, reports local Mediafax.

According to data from the Labor Ministry, there are over 759,000 people with disabilities in Romania. Mental and psychical disabilities are the most common, followed by physical disabilities (177,217 people), and somatic disabilities (148,531).

There are 61,541 people with disabilities in Bucharest. Of this total, more than 57,000 are adults, and 4,446 are children.

Depression is one of the most frequent mental health problems in Romania, representing the leading cause of disability for young people aged between 10 and 19, according to a recent report by the World Health Organization.
