Large Romanian telecom’s GM steps down after 18 years

10 April 2015

Alexandru Oprea, the general manager and board president of Romanian telecom company RCD &RDS, has left the company after 18 years, the telecom firm announced.

Oprea played an important role in establishing the company as one of the main players on the local market, as well as in turning it into a media trust, with nine TV stations.

RCS & RDS is yet to announce who will take over the helm of the company. Oprea has so far been the ‘face’ of RCS &RDS. The company is owned by investor Zoltan Teszari, a media-shy investor who has never appeared at public events or in media meetings.

RCS &RDS is one of the largest cable and satellite TV providers in Romania. It also offers mobile telephony services, and fixed and mobile internet.

Earlier this year, the company took over the radios owned by Central Media Enterprises in Romania - Pro FM, Info Pro, Pro Clasic, Music FM and  Dance FM. The company also recently announced its re-branding as Digi, and started opening new shops under the new brand.
