Romania's National Company for Highways (CNADNR) on Wednesday, February 11, awarded a contract worth EUR 6.5 million to the joint venture of Italian Spea Ingineria Europea and Romanian Tecnic Consulting Engineering Romania.

The two companies will review the feasibility study for the Sibiu-Pitesti highway.

“The feasibility study that will be carried out will link the current version of Sibiu’s bypass to the current version of Pitesti’s bypass. The length of the project is about 120 km," reads a CNADNR press release, cited by local Mediafax.

The contract has a 17-month duration.

The state initially planned to build an express road between Sibiu and Pitesti, according to the initial version of Romania’s Master Plan of Transportation. However, it later decided to build a highway, following public debates.

The investment in the freeway is estimated at EUR 1.67 billion.
