Italian-Romanian joint venture wins EUR 53 mln contract to build cogeneration plant

18 February 2015

The joint venture of Italian STC s.p.a and Romanian Elsaco Engineering SA will build a 42 MW cogeneration energy plant replacing the city thermal plant in Oradea, western Romania.

The two companies won the contract, which is worth EUR 53 million, through a public auction, reports local Mediafax. The project is funded with European funds.

The current plant, which works on gas and has a 250 MW capacity, is three times oversized, said Ilie Bojan, the Oradea mayor.

The new 42 MW electricity unit will replace the existing units within the plant. Some units within the plant will be kept, whereas others will be demolished.

The Oradea City Hall will use other EUR 50 million to change the heating pipes in the city.
