Industrial pollution generates up to EUR 80 bln costs in Romania

Industrial pollution generated in Romania, between 2008 and 2012, estimated costs for health and environmental protection between EUR 25 billion and EUR 80 billion. Romania’s Turceni thermal power plant is the third largest polluter in the EU based on the impact on total costs.

Romania ranks sixth based on the costs caused by industrial pollution, after Germany, Poland, UK, France and Italy, according to a study of the European Environment Agency on the impact of pollutant emissions from power plants and other industrial companies on EU spending with health and environmental protection, cited by local Mediafax.

The ranking of the 30 most polluting companies and industrial complexes in the EU includes eight companies from Germany, six from Poland, four from Romania, three from Bulgaria and UK, two from Greece and one from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy and Slovakia.
