Government plans more listings in Bucharest and London

04 May 2015

Romania’s Government plans to list shares of the Bucharest Airport Company, Constanta Port, as well as electricity producer Hidroelectrica and telecom company Romtelecom.

The listings should take place this year or next year, at the latest, and will be made both on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, Prime Minister Victor Ponta recently said in a TV show, reports local Mediafax.

He added that the state might also consider selling railway freight carrier CFR Marfa, but that state airline Tarom will not be listed due to losses.

The Government announced last week that it planned new listings this fall to increase trading volumes on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Besides the companies where the state holds control packages, such as Hidroelectrica, the Government might consider listing companies that it privatized in the past, but in which it holds minority stakes, such as the Enel and E.On subsidiaries.

However, the state also needs the majority shareholders’ support to achieve this.

The Government might also sell additional stakes in companies that are already listed, such as Romgaz, Nucleareectrica and OMV Petrom.
