German retailer Kaufland opens 9 new stores in Romania

German retailer Kaufland will open nine new hypermarkets in Romania this year, reaching a local network of 111 stores, according to the company.

"The cities targeted for 2015 are Constanta, Bacau, Braila, Arad, Bucharest, Timisoara, Sibiu and Ramnicu Valcea," said company representatives, cited by local Ziarul Financiar.

The first new store will open in Constanta this spring. This will be the second Kaufland hypermarket in the city.

The average investment for a Kaufland store amounts to EUR 6 - 9 million, so this year's expansion budget could reach EUR 81 million, according to data from the company.
