European golf players come to Bucharest for Demis Papillon Golf Academy Cup

13 September 2016

The eighth edition of the Demis Papillon Golf Academy Cup will take place at the Diplomatic Club in Bucharest’s Herastrau Park on September 25. It will be the first time when the Academy Cup takes places in Romania, after the previous seven editions were organized in Bulgaria.

“I have long wanted to bring the competition to Bucharest, and this is possible this year as the Golf Academy (DPGA) is being relocated to the golf course at the Diplomatic Club. Thus, a tradition of competitions older than 93 years is being brought back to life, a tradition that started in 1923 when the golf course in Herastrau was opened, being one of the first courses in Eastern Europe at that time,” said Demis Papillon, founder of the Golf Academy.

This year, the tournament will have 48 amateur golf players from Romania and several other European countries. Being by invitation only, the tournament will include 12 cups. Entry will be free for visitors, who will be able to watch the competitions at cup 1 and cup 6.

The event will start at 08:30, with the participants’ registration. This year’s winner will receive an eight-day package for two people, for a cruise in the Mediterranean. The prize is offered by Croaziere.net.

The Demis Papillon Golf Academy is a non-profit organization that aims to develop and make golf more popular in Romania. Demis Papillon founded the Academy in 2009. Find out more about it here.
