Romania’s economy grows by 4.3% in the first quarter

Romania’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 4.3% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same quarter of last year. The seasonally adjusted growth rate was 4.2%, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Wednesday, May 13.

Compared to the previous quarter, the economy grew by 1.6% (seasonally adjusted), thus recording the third consecutive quarterly increase.

These are the first estimates on economic growth presented by the INS for the first quarter of 2015. The release doesn’t say which economic sectors contributed to this growth.

However, according to other INS reports, Romania’s industrial production went up by 3.3% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to Q1 2014 while the volume of construction work also increased by 13.4% year-on-year.
