Current account deficit down by 40% in Romania

Romania’s balance of payments ended 2014 with a EUR 696 million deficit, down 40% over 2013, when the deficit amounted to EUR 1.17 billion.

The drop was caused by the services balance’s EUR 1.17 billion surplus and the decrease in the primary income deficit with EUR 242 million.

The long-term debt amounted to EUR 76.17 billion on December 31, 2014, down 3.5% year-on-year.

The short term debt recorded EUR 18.14 billion on December 31, 2014, down 5.6% over December 31, 2013, reads the Romanian National Bank press release.

The total external debt decreased by EUR 3.8 billion in 2014.
