Concentration in Romania's banking system, up to 66.4%
The concentration in the banking industry slightly increased in the last three years for large credit institutions that hold balance sheets larger than 5% of total assets.
This happened despite the sales of non-performing loans and the fact that the top two biggest banks lost some of their market shares, reports local Mediafax.
The local banks with market shares of over 5% owned about 66.4% of all assets in September last year, up from about 65% in January 2012.
Romania’s largest bank by assets BCR saw its market share decline from 20.35% to 16.61% between January 2012 and September 2014.
BRD, the second largest bank, dropped from 13.14% to 12.39%. On the other hand, Banca Transilvania, which is third, increased its share from 7.2% to 9.7%.
