Cigarette producers in Romania double exports

Cigarette manufacturers are among the largest exporters in Romania.

These companies have almost doubled both their exports and capabilities in the last five years. They exported between 50% and 80% of their production, with an aggregate value of EUR 563.5 million in the first ten months of 2014, reports local Mediafax.

The major cigarette manufacturers on the Romanian market are British American Tobacco (BAT), with a factory in Ploiesti, Japan Tobacco International (JTI), with a production unit in Bucharest, and Philip Morris International (PMI ), with a factory in Otopeni, Ilfov County.

Italy is the main destination for exports. It received about 72% of the total exports, or around EUR 402 million in the first ten months of the last year.

Germany comes next, with exports worth EUR 18 million, followed by Poland (EUR 16.5 million) and Bulgaria (EUR 16 million).
