Romania needs to think through if it still wants to keep the euro adoption target for January 1, 2019, said the Romanian National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu.

This target is not only ambitious, but very ambitious, he added. It brings the risks of slippages, which are extremely costly.

“We are already in April 2015 and we don’t have a roadmap.[...] Unless we clearly establish what we need to do in every quarter and unless we have a roadmap, setting 2019 or any other date as a target will lack credibility and will create many problems,” he added, cited by local Agerpres.

The entire society must assume this goal, which also needs to be endorsed by an act, whether it’s a Parliament declaration, a law or a political pact, Isarescu said.
