Businessmen seize Romanian Ministry of Finance's accounts

22 January 2015

Romanian businessmen Ioan and Viorel Micula, owners of the European Drinks group, have frozen some of the Finance Ministry's accounts, in an attempt to recover the EUR 80 million the State owns them.

"We try to execute certain accounts, but the Minister is moving its finances from one account to another," said Ioan Micula, cited by local Economica.net.

"We’ve got into this situation because there was no other way out," he added.

The Finance Ministry has not made any comment.

The state must pay the two investors EUR 80 million, following a decision of the Court of Arbitration in Washington.
