Bucharest municipality plans multifunctional sports hall near National Arena
Sports events will have priority in the new hall, but cultural events too will have their place there, according to Romanian media, quoting the Ministry of Culture sources.
The 16,000 seat hall, which is expected to have very good acoustics, will host handball, basket, hockey, gymnastics, table tennis and boxing events. A new training area will also be organized for gymnasts in the national team.
The existing parachuting tower on site will be kept as a tourism spot and the swimming pools and Ice Hockey skating rink nearby will be revamped. The total value of the investment was previously estimated at some EUR 60 million.
In the area there are already two covered swimming pools, as well as an outdoor swimming pool, an athletics stadium, the covered ice rink, as well as areas for bastekball.
The entire project will be opened to public debate soon, according to the Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu.
