Baneasa overpass in Bucharest to be consolidated with EUR 12 mln budget

27 April 2011

The Bucharest City Hall plans to pay EUR 12 million to consolidate the Baneasa overpass, for which works will start this year and will end after ten months. The total length of the passage is 288 meters, resulting in a cost of EUR 42,000 per meter. Out of the total cost of the work, EUR 2 million will be spent for design and technical assistance, EUR 8.2 million for construction and assembly, and EUR 600,000 for site organization or charges and commissions. The City Hall has put aside EUR 1 million for any unforeseen expenses of the project. The cost will be entirely supported from the local budget.

The decision to consolidate the overpass was taken after technical surveys carried out in February revealed serious deficiencies in its structure. The overpass connects the intersection between Aerogarii Blvd with Ion Ionescu de la Brad Blvd and is part of a project meant to improve the traffic flow on the national road DN1. Works started in February-March 2007 but were stopped the same year in December, to start again in April 2009. The Baneasa overpass was open to traffic in November 2009.
