Agricultural land price goes up by 50% in Romania

The price of farmland has increased in Romania by almost 50% since the beginning of 2012.

This has been the biggest growth on the real estate market, reports local Capital.ro.

Foreign investors in Romania own or lease a million hectares of arable land, namely about 10% of the country’s total available land. Most of the foreign investors acquired land after Romania joined the EU in 2007.

The farmland price increased 25 times between 2002 and 2012, with an annual appreciation rate of 40%, according to the evaluation company Darian.

Transactions with land for property development have risen in the last six months, particularly in Bucharest.

The price of land for property development has decreased by about 63% since the beginning of the crisis. However, compared to the second quarter of 2013, prices have gone down by only 4%.
