Some 160,000 people don’t have ID cards in Romania

17 May 2016

About 160,000 people don’t have identity cards in Romania, said Ciprian Necula, the State Secretary at the European Funds Ministry.

The official said that the EU funded-program on reducing the number of people with poverty risk could help solve the problem of people without IDs, reports local Economica.net.

The biggest problem in getting an ID is the lack of a residence, as one needs to show the proof of a residence when asking for an ID. However, there are laws that allow people without a home to get an ID, but the process demands a lot of papers and the assistance of people, the state secretary said.

The EU Funds Ministry launched yesterday two financing lines totaling EUR 350 million for projects aimed at reducing poverty in marginalized communities.
