Veterans of Romania's 1989 revolution protest over pensions, traffic disrupted in Bucharest
Clearance was given for 150 people to hold a protest between 10:00 and 16:00, but in the end around 600 demonstrators joined in, causing problems for traffic. The local police have diverted traffic on the boulevard to alternative routes.
The protestors say the cessation of stipends paid by the government to people who participated in Romania's 1989 revolution, which overthrew the Nicolae Ceausescu and ended communism in the country, has left many revolutionaries without the means to live.
