Study: 40% of the homes in Romania need repairs

06 October 2016

About 40% of the 7.47 million homes in Romania need repairs, 16% of them having big problems, according to a recent survey by the Romanian Housing Banks Association.

Moreover, most of the houses and apartments in Romania lack comfort, reports local Mediafax.

In urban areas, the biggest problem is overcrowding, as most houses and apartments have two or three rooms. Meanwhile, in the countryside, the biggest problem is lack of comfort, as a third of the dwellings don't have toilets and a similar share don't have bathrooms or showers with running water.

Moreover, 16% of the houses in Romania are damaged, have damp problems, and little light. Also, 3-19% of them are affected by environmental factors such as noise, pollution, and promiscuity.

According to an IRSOP study, 68% of Romania’s population intends to improve their housing conditions in the next five years. A total of 580,000 families plan to renovate their house, buy a new one, purchase a house in the countryside, insulate their home, repair the wiring and plumbing, install a heating system, or fix the house’s roof.
