Romanian municipalities allowed to up taxes by half

19 February 2015

Local city and town halls across Romania will be able to increase local taxes and fees by up to 50%.

The new Fiscal Code draft law allows local municipalities to raise local taxes by more than the current 20% threshold, starting 2016.

Under the new law, local municipalities, and no longer the Government, will be able to adjust local taxes and fees based on inflation every three years.

The city halls will be able to establish new rates for local taxes and fees, based on economic, social, geographic criteria or on local needs.
