Romanian Government cuts VAT earlier to boost consumption

20 February 2015

The Government will reduce excise duties and the VAT before the end of 2015, earlier than announced with the new Fiscal Code project.

Through this change of date, it wants to support consumption during November and December, said Finance Minister Darius Valcov, cited by local Mediafax.

The Government announced earlier this week a VAT cut from 24% to 20% from start-2016. Valcov hopes the Parliament will adopt the new Fiscal Code by the beginning of June and will not fundamentally change it.

Romania wants to surpass the EU average for GDP per capita in 12 years.
