Romanian film, among best shorts of 2014

A Romanian short film is among the best of its genre in Europe in 2014, according to a ranking by Cineuropa.org. The film Art/Arta by Adrian Sitaru was chosen by a jury made of festival directors, movie makers and journalists.

The best shorts of 2014 include “The Chicken (the recent recipient of the European Film Award for Best Short), Adrian Sitaru’s playful Art, Hungarian animation Symphony No.42 and the Finnish experimental documentary Emergency Calls,” according to Cineuropa Shorts.

Laurence Boyce, Programme Director Sleepwalkers, UK/Estonia, chose Sitaru’s Art, saying it is “A clever and playful piece of work it’s already struck a chord amongst festival audiences and it’s going to do a lot more during 2015. Look for it winning a ton of awards.”

Anna Veilande-Kustikova (Riga International Film Festival, Latvia) also chose the Romanian film on her short list, and so have Molly Cowderoy (Programmer at Short Film City, Leeds International Film Festival, UK), Alexei Dmtriev (Filmmaker, Russia). In total 17 industry professionals took their picks for the best shorts of 2014. The full list of choices is here.

Sitaru’s Art premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2014. The film already snatched international awards – best short at the Francophone Film Festival in Namur, Belgium, best short at the Leeds Festival in UK, at the Sleepwalkers International Short Film Festival in Estonia and best script at the Ozu Film Festival in Italy.

Art is a fully independent Romanian production made by  4 Proof Film.
