Romania's construction sector down 14.5% in September

Romania’s construction sector dropped by 14.5% in September 2017 compared to the same month last year, affected by the decline in infrastructure and non-residential construction, while housing construction advanced significantly, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The volume of infrastructure work dropped by 26% year-on-year whereas non-residential construction went down by 24.9% year-on-year. The housing construction rose by 66.3% in September compared to the same month last year.

New construction work saw a 6.7% year-on-year decline in September. Capital repair work decreased by 29.7% in September year-on-year whereas the maintenance work dropped by 27.6%.

In the first nine months of this year, the volume of construction work went down by 6.5% as gross series compared to the same period last year. Infrastructure work recorded the biggest drop during this period, of 25.8%.
