Romania, Bulgaria, Greece discuss natural gas corridor

23 April 2015

The Bulgarian capital Sofia hosted on Wednesday, April 22, a meeting on the construction of a gas corridor that will interconnect the natural gas networks in Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece.

This will have a capacity of 3-5 billion cubic meters a year, according to the Bulgarian newspaper Dnevnik, cited by local Agerpres.

Mihai Albulescu, State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Small and Medium Enterprises and Business Environment, represented Romania.

In 2014, the three states agreed to build a gas corridor as an alternative to the South Stream gas pipeline project.

Gas sources for the new vertical corridor would be the LNG Revithoussa terminal in Greece and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which would transport natural gas from the Caspian basin.
