Romania and Bulgaria to sign memorandum for two new bridges over the Danube

The Romanian government recently approved a memorandum of understanding with Bulgarian authorities to implement feasibility studies for two new bridges across the Danube, namely Silistra-Calarasi and Nikopol-Turnu Magurele, according to government spokesman Corneliu Calota, reports local Mediafax.

The third bridge between Romania and Bulgaria, across the river Danube, will cost between EUR 200 and EUR 270 million, according to feasibility studies quoted by Bulgarian media. The four options taken into consideration for the bridge were Oriahovo-Bechet, Silistra-Calarasi, Ruse-Giurgiu and Nikopol- Turnu Magurele.

Two bridges across the Danube currently connect Romania and Bulgaria, one between Giurgiu and Ruse and one between Calafat and Vidin.
