Rewe Group plans Penny Market network expansion in Romania with 20 stores this year
Retail chain Penny Market/Penny XXL runs 118 stores on the Romanian market, making it the largest discount network, according to Rewe. The Penny network alone works with 2,500 employees.
In Romania, Rewe also runs Selgros cash & carry stores and Billa supermarkets. The German Group shares the local market with Metro, Carrefour, Kaufland, Plus Discount and MiniMax (discount stores).
Rewe has 14,500 stores in Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Hungary, Russia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. The total revenues of the group in 2009 were of EUR 50 billion, including the EUR 6 billion sales from Eastern Europe.
