Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure Management – CNAIR issued on Friday the order for starting the work on the Domnesti overpass, in western Bucharest.

The contract’s execution period is 51 months, including 3 months for design, 24 months for execution, and 24 months of warranty period.

CNAIR signed the contract for this important infrastructure project in May 2017. The contract is worth some EUR 20 million (VAT not included) and was awarded to local companies Straco Grup and Comnord.

Some 20,000 people living in the area have been complaining for years about the poor road infrastructure connecting Bucharest to the neighboring commune Domnesti. The connecting road, Prelungirea Ghencea, has only one lane per sense and no sidewalks. Moreover, the road crosses Bucharest’s ring road, which causes big traffic jams on rush hours. The overpass will go over the ring road and should reduce the traffic congestion in the area.
