New bank in Romania wants to reach top 10

23 April 2015

Idea Bank, the former Romanian International Bank (RIB), which the Polish group Getin Holding bought at the end of 2013, wants to enter top 10 in the next 2-3 years.

It plans to reach a top position both through organic growth and by acquiring banks or other companies, said Piotr Kaczmarek, CEO of Getin Holding.

A foreign bank should not come 30th or 40th because it then stands for nothing, he added.

“To reach the top 10 in 2-3 years is feasible. It has been a good time to enter the Romanian market when other banks have problems with portfolios; we come with fresh products. Romania is one of the big countries in the EU, but one with a low-banked population; these are the advantages and potential of the market, which we consider stable and predictable,” said Kaczmarek.
