Mega Image takes over five Gulliver stores in Romania’s capital

08 August 2013

Retailer Mega Image, owned by Belgian group Delhaize, recently took over five Gulliver stores in Bucharest, the company has announced.

Two of them will be operated under the Shop & Go brand, while the other three will be rebranded as Mega Image. All five stores are set to be remodeled by end-October, according to Mega Image.

Through this recent agreement, the retailer strengthens its stores network and also its presence in Bucharest, where it has been expanding aggressively in recent years.  The value of the recent deal was not announced.

Mega image currently runs 239 stores across Romania, of which 145 Mega Image stores and 94 Shop & Go neighborhood stores.

Gulliver has a total of nine stores in Bucharest and is among the largest supermarket networks in Romania, with annual sales of some EUR 6.8 million.

In June this year, retailer Carrefour signed a franchise contract with supermarket operator Gulliver, under which the first two Gulliver supermarkets in Bucharest have already been re-opened under Carrefour’s Express brand.
