Number of bad debtors reaches almost 714,000 in Romania

The number of individuals who had unpaid debts older than 30 days at banks and non-banking financial institutions rose to almost 714,000 in January, up by 9,700 compared to the previous month.

In September 2015, the number of debtors was even higher, namely 716,000.

The total overdue debts amounted to RON 11 billion (EUR 2.4 billion) at the end of January 2016. The debts of over 90 days, which qualify as non-performing loans, totaled EUR 1.7 billion.

In January, the total overdue debts of individuals and companies amounted to EUR 4.6 billion. Bucharest accounted for over 34% of the total sum.
