Gazprom drills 12 wells in west of Romania

27 October 2015

Serbian company NIS Petrol, controlled by Russian Gazprom, will start drilling 12 wells in the Bihor county in the first quarter of the next year, looking for gas and oil reserves. It will cooperate with Canadian company East West Petroleum.

The Romanian state has leased four gas and oil perimeters in the west of the country, near Oradea, covering nearly 4,000 square kilometers, over half of the area of Bihor.

The two companies will prospect the perimeters by the end of next year, reports local Economica.net.

“The well will target conventional gas deposits and will be dug at a depth of 2,500 meters. The well drilling and the evaluation of deposits will take 50-60 days. Drillings will continue throughout 2016, with additional wells drilled based on the interpretation of new seismic data,” according to East West Petroleum.
