Number of new COVID-19 cases remains high in Romania
Romania reported 1,318 new cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, according to the official daily report released on Friday, August 28. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Romania thus went up to 84,468.
Most of the new cases were reported in Bucharest (159), and the counties of Iasi (89), and Prahova (78).
Separately from the new cases, 645 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection.
More than 1.75 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 26,059 in the last 24 hours.
More than 37,000 COVID-19 patients were declared cured so far, and 10,344 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.
The death toll has risen to 3,507, according to the same report. A total of 48 deaths were reported between August 27 (10:00) and August 28 (10:00), in the age categories of 40-49 years (2 deaths), 50-59 years (5 deaths), 60-69 years (13 deaths), and 70-79 years (15 deaths), and 80+ years (13 deaths). Forty-seven of the patients had previous medical conditions.
The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 497 on Friday, August 28. In total, 7,325 coronavirus patients are hospitalized.
Almost 8,800 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,713 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 30,877 people are under quarantine at home, and 31 are in institutionalized quarantine.
