Chinese Huawei reaches 2nd place in Romania's smartphone market

19 October 2015

Chinese company Huawei sold about 180,000 smartphones in Romania in the first eight months of the year, reaching the second position in the local smartphone market in August.

It surpassed the local company Visual Fan, the owner of the Allview smartphone and tablet brand, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

In the first half of the year Huawei sold 130,000 smartphones in Romania, up by almost half (48%) year-on-year.

However, the most important selling period is at the end of the year, and it includes Black Friday and the holidays. The most expensive phones are sold during this period. The growth rate in the local smartphone market could exceed 30% at the end of 2015.

The Korean company Samsung is the market leader with almost 50% market share.

The Romanian smartphone market is estimated at over 3 million units per year.
