Bucharest City Hall plans underground passage at Romana square

12 February 2013

A new underground passage could reduce the number of pedestrians in Romana square area in downtown Bucharest, should a Bucharest City hall project currently under public debate be carried out. The passage would connect to the metro station and have five entries, including two at the Academy of Economic Studies (ASE). The same project features green areas of some 500 sqm as well as planting around 40 trees.

A similar project was approved by the Bucharest City Council back in 2006, and the project should have been finalized in 2008. It was planned to include some retail areas, similarly to the one at Universitate Square. The project was however changed, and now does not include retail space.

The project is under public debate on the Bucharest City Hall website here, and the debate is open until February 21.
