Romania’s tax agency starts inspections at 80 medium and large companies

26 February 2019

Romania’s tax collection agency ANAF announced on February 25 that it started inspections at 80 large and medium-sized contributors, under operation Iceberg that will continue for the whole year.

The fiscal risk estimated by ANAF for the first 80 targets is nearly RON 260 million (EUR 55 mln).

“We selected the taxpayers following operative checks carried out by the anti-fraud inspectors," explained ANAF.

The tax agency announced at the end of January that it would carry an extensive tax audit activity of the largest companies covering all areas of economic activity in Romania this year.

Operation Iceberg requires more and frequent and efficient inspections to large companies aimed at maintaining a fair treatment for all categories of taxpayers operating in Romania, according to the press release. The operation focuses on fighting illegal transfer pricing policies, verifying the way large companies manage their economic relations with other companies in their group, and dismantling the chains organized for avoiding fiscal liability.
