Young party wants Romanian MPs to work eight hours a day

13 April 2017

Several MPs of Save Romania Union (USR), the youngest party in Romania, which ranked third in the last parliamentary elections with almost 9%, said that they would submit a draft law to remove the special pensions of MPs and introduce a work program of eight hours per day.

USR representatives explained that these amendments would be necessary because the new public pay law, which is still in a draft stage, increases the salaries of senators and deputies.

USR MP Cristian Seidler said that the Romanian deputies mostly work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and sometimes on Wednesdays. “The activity in the (parliamentary) committees on Wednesday and Thursday is rather non-existent,” he added, reports local Digi24.

USR representatives said that they plan to organize “a real public debate” on the new pay law next week, where they will invite both representatives of unions and employers.
