Wind energy could inject EUR 4.5 bln in Romania's economy

15 December 2014

Romania has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 55% per capita in the last twenty years, and the wind energy will contribute about EUR 4.5 billion to the national economy by 2030, said Attila Korodi, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

"The renewable energy's share in the total consumption in 2013 reached 40%," the Minister said.

The figures speak about the creation of 10,000 jobs and a EUR 4.5 billion contribution to the Romanian economy by 2030 from the wind energy, Korodi said, cited by local Agerpres.

EU Member States have already decided to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% until 2030 compared to 1990. This is a significant effort, but insufficient globally, as long as the EU emissions' share represents only 8% of total global emissions, Korodi added.
