Two Muslim girls brutally atacked in Bucharest

01 April 2016

A group of young people attacked two Muslim girls on Calea Mosilor Boulevard in Bucharest, on Wednesday, March 30.

The incident took place during daytime. The two Muslim girls had their hijabs ripped off by the attackers, and were also beaten, suffering injuries to the head and hands.

"A man hardly intervened to save them from aggressors," reads a statement of the Muslim Sisters Associations, cited by local Mediafax.

One of the Muslim girls went to the Police but didn't file a complaint, according to Bucharest Police spokesman Bogdan Ghebaur. The Police are currently investigating the case, but they haven't yet managed to identify the attackers.

According to officials from the Muslim Sisters Association, the situation is alarming, and the media made an incorrect portrait of the terrorist attacks, as it failed to make a distinction between terrorists and ordinary Muslims.

"Muslims condemn these terrorist acts and condemn violence. [...] The Muslims in Romania are peaceful, more than half of them are Romanian citizens, born and educated here," representatives of the Association said.

Such incidents are very rare in Romania, but their number might grow, as it happened in other European cities.
