Think-tank: US should subsidize weapon exports to CEE, including Romania
The US should facilitate and even finance the export of weapons to countries in Central Eastern Europe, Romania included, writes the Washington-based independent think-tank Center for European Policy Analysis, cited by local Hotnews.ro.
These countries should be able to defend themselves in the face of a Russian aggression, like the one in Ukraine.
NATO’s current strategy, the so-called defense-in-depth, is based on the concentration of its military capacities in the West European countries, reports the analysis.
However, this approach is not right for the current times, and NATO should develop a new strategy called “preclusive defense”, according to US analysts. This would mean to subsidize the export of high-technology weapons to CEE countries, including Romania, so that they can defend themselves.
