Study: Some 4 mln Romanians plan to go on short holidays this year

05 May 2015

A recent BRAT study reveals that urban Romanians prefer leisure trips and holidays shorter than a week to longer vacations.

Over half of the surveyed Romanians have opted in the last 12 months for vacations shorter than a week, while a third went on longer holidays.

Moreover, 41% of the respondents living in urban areas said they intended to take leisure trips in the near future, which means that some 4 million Romanians plan to go on short holidays this year.

Most of them prefer holidays in Romania and the mountain areas lead the ranking when it comes to short holidays, with 52% of the answers. The seaside comes next with 30%, followed by the Danube Delta – 10%.

“This aspect is also influenced by the fact that sea vacations are limited to the warm season, which gives the seaside a seasonal character,” according to BRAT.

Almost 40% of those who have spent a short holiday in Romania in the past year chose to stay in guesthouses while 47% of those who have traveled abroad opted for accommodation in 3-star hotels.

No matter the destination, most Romanians travel by car when it comes to leisure trips and short holidays.

The study is representative for the urban population aged between 14 and 74.
