Some 60 ships are blocked on the Danube because of the low water level

Some 60 ships were blocked on various sections of the Danube river, due to the low water level. The Danube’s level went down by half because of the draught in Romania and upstream.

The ships that were blocked had to reduce their loads in order to move on. Some of the biggest problems were in the Danube’s Bulgarian section along the Romanian city of Zimnicea, where the water depth was too low to allow safe navigation, according to Digi 24 news station.

Romanian and Bulgarian naval authorities have set up buoys to signal the best navigable corridor for ships and to prevent them from getting stranded on land.
