Romania's tourism ministry to promote Bucharest abroad for night life and cultural targets

20 September 2012

Bucharest will be promoted as both a party town, for those who want a wild weekend in the clubs, and as cultural , which will together create a brand for the city, declared Cristian Barhalescu, state secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT), quoted by Mediafax.

The clubs in Bucharest will be promoted in countries like Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Poland.

“Our advantage as a destination for fun is that in Romania the clubs are open serving drink until 5-6-7 in the morning, which is banned in other countries. For example, in Italy after 2 o'clock at night alcohol is no longer sold. Prices are also affordable. In this way we can full the hotels on the weekends, which are left free by business people who come for delegations or those who come to work in the capital during the week,” said Barhalescu.

To transform the capital in a tourist destination, the authorities need to solve the several problems including the stray dogs and thieves.

Currently tourism agencies avoid lead groups of foreign tourists through the Old Center of the city, because of pickpockets who take advantage of the narrow streets  to steal from tourists, in general wallets and cameras from older people.
