Romania's PM says Fiscal Code changes could be passed by the Government

20 July 2015

Romania’s Prime Minister Victor Ponta reacted to President Klaus Iohannis’ decision to reject the new Fiscal Code saying that the Government might pass the most important measures by Emergency Ordinance.

Ponta is even ready to take responsibility for the fiscal relaxation measures in the new Fiscal Code in front of the Parliament. He added that he would have preferred a political consensus for the fiscal measures.

He also said that the President’s decision was inexplicable, as even the liberals have voted for the new Fiscal Code, and implied that Iohannis may have been forced to this decision by foreign interests.

“In the last year and a half, many foreign companies have opened factories, production facilities, IT service centers, training centers. This means that some (countries – e.n.) are losing work places and business (…) Maybe some don’t want to see Romania’s economy become stronger,” Ponta said in a TV show, reports local Mediafax.
