Romania’s agri-trade deficit increases sevenfold

Romania’s trade deficit with agricultural products increased almost seven times in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2015, reaching EUR 234.4 million, according to the Agriculture Ministry, reports local Agerpres.

In the first three months of 2015, the deficit in the trade with agricultural products amounted to EUR 34.9 million. Romania exported 2.595 million tons of agricultural products worth over EUR 1.3 billion. Its imports totaled 1.497 million tons that were worth some EUR 1.5 billion.

The biggest exports were cigarettes, namely EUR 222.6 million for 15,825 tons. They were followed by wheat, with EUR 215 million for 1.2 million tons. Corn ranked third for revenues from exports, with EUR 198.1 million for almost 670,000 tons.
