Romanian state gets EUR 31 mln from environment stamp tax

21 July 2015

The Romanian state received almost EUR 31 million from the environment stamp tax in the first three months of the year.

In the two years since implementing this tax, the state has collected EUR 336 million, reports local Economica.net.

The Government introduced the new environment stamp tax in 2013, on the grounds of the old car tax. It also increased the tax due on Euro 3 and 4 emissions category cars, while decreasing the tax paid for Euro 2, Euro 1 and non-euro category cars.

The state received in total EUR 787 million from the pollution tax and from the tax on emissions, both applied to cars. However, the state must return almost a third of the money (some EUR 238 million) to car owners who have contested the pollution tax in court and won.
