Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis will summon the new Parliament on Tuesday, December 20, and afterwards he will call all the parties that entered the Parliament to take part in the consultations for naming a new Prime Minister, the Presidency announced on Friday.

The consultations are due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

Iohannis wanted to congratulate those who have entered the Parliament, but also wanted to draw attention to the fact that no party had won an absolute majority in the legislature.

The issue of establishing the new government is overly sensitive, as PSD, the winner of the parliamentary elections, may be tempted to appoint Liviu Dragnea, according to statement made by some of its important members. However, the PSD leader is not eligible for the prime minister's office, due to his two-year suspended prison conviction.
