Romanian Police seize 3 tons of drugs in the first half of the year

The Romanian Police seized some 3 tons drugs and nearly 6,000 tablets, and discovered 28 illegal drug crops following more than 400 actions and almost 1,000 searches in the first half of this year.

Moreover, the Police dismantled 41 organized crime groups, reads a statement of the Romanian Police. Following these actions, 459 people were detained, 427 of them being placed under preventive arrest. For the rest, the court ordered the judicial control measure.

The Police also seized RON 1.47 million, EUR 135,845, USD 8,750, supplies and goods worth RON 897,000, 15 firearms, and 2,998 pieces of ammunition. The total value of the precautionary measures imposed by the police is RON 3.74 million (some EUR 840,000).

The most recent massive drug bust took place in late-June this year, when the Romanian Police have found 2.5 tons of cocaine in a container that was transiting Constanta Port. The container came from South America, and the cocaine was supposed to reach the European market. The cocaine’s market value was estimated at EUR 625 million.
