Romanian MPs don’t want to be filmed while casting secret votes

04 April 2016

Romania’s Chamber of Deputies wants to amend the regulation that allows the media to film the Parliament’s secret voting process.

Several MPs complained that the vote lost its secrecy in the presence of cameras, said the MP Florin Iordache, reports local News.ro.

Shooting the vote from balconies is the most problematic, Iordache said.

The MPs secretly cast their vote, including on sensitive issues such as the arrest of fellows MPs. The National Anticorruption Directorate has asked the Chamber of Deputies to approve preventive arrest measures against several MPs under investigation, but the Chamber rejected the request.

Valeriu Zgonea, the Chamber’s president, said that party leaders should come up with a proposition to change the current regulation allowing the media to film the voting process.
